Bloomfield College Announces New Director of Student Financial Services

Bloomfield College has announced Lisa Shaheen as the new Director of Student Financial Services, following a nationwide search.

Beginning August 1, Shaheen will provide the overall management and strong leadership necessary for the effective administration of the College’s student financial services and scholarship programs including, but not limited to, financial aid processing and disbursement and  counseling services. Shaheen will be responsible for the administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid, including scholarship, endowments, and grant budgets.

“I am so excited to welcome Lisa Shaheen to Bloomfield College. Her wealth of experience and commitment to improving student satisfaction and financial literacy made her an ideal candidate to lead our financial aid functions,” said Adam Castro, Vice President for Enrollment Management. “Above all else, she demonstrates a true understanding and appreciation for the Bloomfield College story and mission. She will, no doubt, make a positive impact on our campus community.”

A non-traditional, first-generation student, Shaheen attended community college in Detroit, Michigan before moving to New York City. Her career in Higher Education began in 1994 at The New School in New York City as a cashier in the Bursar’s Office.

It was at The New School that she was able to earn a bachelor’s degree while working as a full-time employee.

After a few years in the Bursar’s Office, Shaheen saw the need to provide assistance and access to families in the financial planning of higher education and made the move to The New School’s Financial Aid Office.  There she worked in roles as Financial Aid Counselor, Student Loan Assistant, Assistant Director, Director of Undergraduate Financial Aid, and Senior Director of Financial Aid.

As Director of Undergraduate Financial Aid at The New School, Shaheen managed federal and state grant programs, developed financial literacy initiatives, and created and implemented packaging policies.

As Senior Director of Student Financial Aid her focus included predictive modeling as part of a net tuition revenue model, collaborative work with Admissions Directors and Deans, statistical reporting in conjunction with the Institutional Research Office, and strategic spending plans with Development and Alumni Relations.

In her new role at Bloomfield College, Shaheen will develop and execute a departmental vision and strategy for leveraging financial aid resources and meeting student financial needs while supporting the College’s enrollment goals, monitoring and reporting on the College’s discount rate, and improving student satisfaction.

Shaheen hopes to use her experience and strategic thinking to make a positive difference in the lives of Bloomfield College students and their families.
