The Division of Student Affairs held its second-annual Parent Summit on Saturday, Oct 22.

“It is amazing being a parent of a first-year student,” expressed Rose Mitchell, Associate Dean for Student Affairs. “We bring you all back to campus after orientation to reconnect you to Bloomfield College, because you - the parents - are an integral part of the College.”

The first part of the Program, held in Talbot Hall, combined roundtable discussions and an informational session presented by guest speaker, Jonnine Deloatch. Deloatch, a close friend of Mitchell and Director of Sophomore and Junior Experience at William Paterson University, enthusiastically discussed the importance of parents reinforcing family values in their students as they shift from high school student to college student.

The second half of the day saw the crowd transition over to The Green, Bloomfield's new luxury residential complex located directly across the street from the campus, where they were treated to a beautiful food spread provided by Gourmet Dining. Prominent Jazz musician Keith Marks and an accompanying band serenaded the crowd during the lunch hour, providing an entertaining backdrop for the remainder of the afternoon. Future Vereen ’17, sang the soulful song “Powerful,” by Alicia Keys and Jussie Smollett

“Bloomfield College recognizes the importance and value of parental engagement in the students’ college experience, especially during the first year,” said Dr. Patrick Lamy, Vice President of Student Affairs. “The Parent Summit is just another example of our continued effort to help our students complete their education.”
