CAT Professor Receives Game Changer Award

Creative Arts & Technology (CAT) professor, GJ Lee, received the Game Changer Award from IndieCade last month. The Game Changer Award celebrates those who have impacted the gaming landscape in a significant way. According to its website, IndieCade supports independent game development and organizes a series of international events showcasing the future of independent games. It encourages, publicizes, and cultivates innovation and artistry in all forms of interactive media, helping to create a public perception of games as rich, diverse, artistic, and culturally significant.

Professor Lee was recognized with this award for her work as one of the six organizers of the Game Devs of Color Expo. The Game Devs of Color Expo is an inclusive games expo and conference that creates a "new normal" in games by putting creators of color at the forefront, showing off their games, building conversations, and pushing games forward as an art form.

Professor GJ Lee began as an adjunct instructor at Bloomfield College in 2014, and has since become an Assistant Professor in the CAT Division. Professor Lee received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Drawing and Mathematics from New Jersey City University and a Masters of Professional Studies in Interactive Telecommunications from ITP, Tisch School of the Arts. Professor Lee has worked since 2007 as a studio assistant at Jon Rappleye Studio, a Production Artist and Graphic Designer at The Evening Journal Association, a Game Artist and Designer, and as a Team Leader at Fantage. In 2011, she started working as an independent visual and interaction consultant for companies such as Lumalus, Inc. and Heard Entertainment. She taught Game Design at The Montclair Art Museum and Parsons/The New School.
