Meet 23 Park Place: Bloomfield College's 14th Residence Hall

23 Park Place, the newest addition to Bloomfield College’s ever-growing campus, opened its doors just in time for the start of the fall semester. The project was completed with the help of The Leegis Group, Inc. of Union, New Jersey.

The three-story residence hall is comprised of six suites each with full kitchens and two or three bathrooms depending on suite design. Each suite is intended to house eight to ten students, comfortably, with floors being co-educational.

23 Park Places houses currently houses 53 Bloomfield College students. This past fall, residence reached 92% capacity.

Park Place marks the 14th on-campus residence for the College, as it joins the ranks of Franklin Street Residence Hall, 23 Austin Place, and 225 Liberty Street, to name the latest additions.

“Students have been able to experience the brand new facilities here at Bloomfield College this year like the new Center for Technology + Creativity and Park Place,” expressed by Marcus Leak, an alumnus of the College and current Residential Director. “Since 23 Park Place is a brand new residence hall, these 53 students are the first to step foot in the building. It provides a lot of space and creates the opportunity for the residents to feel extremely comfortable.”

The new residence hall, formerly a nursing home acquired by Bloomfield College in 2014, is designed to provide apartment-style living to upperclassmen at the College. With a growing incoming class each year, demands for on-campus housing spiked. For the first time in the history of the College, about 50% of the new class is residing on campus this fall, resulting in 636 students of the total student body living on campus.

“It’s so great that not only enrollment is up for the incoming freshman class, but requests for housing are increasing each year, too,” said Ms. Nicole Faison, Director of Residential Education and Housing. “Park Place was the best step forward for the College. It’s a fantastic building.”

23 Park Place increases the quality and quantity of residential housing options for Bloomfield College students by providing upperclassmen with more independence. According to Ms. Faison, the early reviews have been great, with students commenting that the new residence hall is a “house within a house.”

Ms. Faison remarked that the students really enjoy the fully functioning kitchens found in each suite.

“23 Park Place brings a different energy to Bloomfield College,” said Darlene Newland ’17, Resident Advisor. “It’s like a five-star hotel! This is my second year as an R.A. and final year as a student and I couldn’t be any happier in this new building.”

Residential Education and Housing will continue to add additional amenities to the square footage of Park Place, such as an additional study lounge, as well as spruce up the hallways to make it feel even more like home for the students.
