Six New Faculty Members Join Bloomfield College

Bloomfield College is pleased to announce the addition of six new full-time faculty members for the 2017-2018 academic year. They will strengthen the College’s classrooms in a number of areas from Education to Nursing to Humanities and the Arts. The College welcomes them as it embarks on its 150th anniversary year.

 

“One of the greatest assets we have at Bloomfield College is a remarkably dedicated faculty. This year, we are pleased to welcome six outstanding new colleagues to our community,” said Dr. Tresmaine Grimes, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty. “Each of them brings tremendous passion and experience to the College. We are extremely fortunate to have each of them working with our students.”

 

Dr. Natascia Boeri joins the College as Assistant Professor of Sociology. Dr. Boeri received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Warren Wilson College in 2005, a Master of Arts degree in Sociology from Queens College, City University of New York in 2012, and she received her Ph.D. in Sociology in 2016 from The Graduate Center, City University of New York. Since 2009, Dr. Boeri was an adjunct instructor at John Jay College, Baruch College, and York College.

 

Dr. Harry Franqui-Rivera came to Bloomfield College in 2016, serving as an interim Assistant Professor of History.  He is now Associate Professor of History at the College. Dr. Franqui-Rivera received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus in 1999, a Master of Arts degree in U.S. Military/Diplomatic History from Temple University in 2002, and his Ph.D. (Distinction) in History of the Caribbean and Latin America from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 2010. He was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Latin American and World History at Marist College in 2010, a Visiting Assistant Professor of History and Caribbean and Latin American Studies at Skidmore College in 2012, and a research associate at CENTRO, The Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunger College, City University of New York. 

 

Dr. Nancy Innella will serve as Associate Professor of Nursing at the College. Dr. Innella received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Seton Hall University, a Master of Science in Nursing from Monmouth University, and a Ph.D. in Nursing Science from Rush. Dr. Innella is a licensed RN in New Jersey, a Certified Nurse Education (CNE) – National League of Nursing, Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) – Association of Perioperative Nursing. Her clinical specialty is pediatric, community, and perioperative nursing. She held positions as a pediatric staff nurse at Morristown Memorial Hospital, and as a staff nurse, operating room, at Union Hospital.  She has taught at Trinitas School of Nursing, Caldwell University, Kean University, and most recently at the University of Illinois Chicago. 

 

Professor GJ Lee has been an adjunct instructor at Bloomfield College since 2014, and will remain in the Creative Arts and Technology (CAT) Division as Assistant Professor. Profesor Lee received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Drawing and Mathematics from New Jersey City University and a Masters of Professional Studies in Interactive Telecommunications from ITP, Tisch School of the Arts. Professor Lee has worked since 2007 as a studio assistant at Jon Rappleye Studio, a Production Artist and Graphic Designer at The Evening Journal Association, a Game Artist and Designer, and as a Team Leader at Fantage. In 2011, she started working as an independent visual and interaction consultant for companies such as Lumalus, Inc. and Heard Entertainment. She taught Game Design at The Montclair Art Museum and Parsons/The New School.

 

Dr. Nora McCook who most currently served as the instructor of record for English courses at The Ohio State University, joins Bloomfield College as Assistant Professor of Writing. Dr. McCook received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Belmont University, a Master of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Delaware, and a Ph.D. in English – Rhetoric, Composition and Literacy from The Ohio State University.  Dr. McCook was an instructor of record for English 111 First Year Writing at the University of Delaware from 2010-2012, and held a Teaching Apprenticeship at The Ohio State University in 2013.

 

Dr. Karen Pezzolla is Bloomfield College’s newest Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education. Dr. Pezzolla received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with certification in Elementary Education (N-8); the NJ certification as Teacher of Handicapped from New Jersey City University; the NJ reading Specialist certification from William Paterson University; a Master of Education degree in Human Service Leadership; and a Master of Education degree in Education Leadership with NJ Principal and NJ Supervisor certification, both from the College of St. Elizabeth. Dr. Pezzolla recently completed her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Northcentral University.
