Career Development hosts Earn, Learn, Intern & Serve Fair

Bloomfield’s Center for Career Development held the first of three Career Fairs scheduled for the 2014-2015 academic year Sept. 4, giving students the chance to secure paid part-time and full-time jobs, internships and community service activities.

Titled “Earn, Learn, Intern and Serve”, the event provided students with the ability to speak with 25 businesses and organizations, a roster featuring such nationally recognized entities as Home Depot, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Diplomatic Security. Students of all academic levels and disciplines were eligible to attend, supporting one of the main tenants of Bloomfield’s Center for Career Development.

“We teach our students that they should begin the career development process as soon as they become students here at Bloomfield, so this is an event that allows them to explore a wide range of opportunities early in the academic year,” Center director Carol Ruiz said of the day’s festivities.

“This is a great opportunity for our students to gain real-world experience through off-campus positions, and further their educational experience in an exciting and enriching manner,” said Ruiz. “The students interact with employers, the employers recruit quality candidates, and we can show how well Bloomfield College is preparing our students for the real world.”

Attendees were able to speak with representatives from organizations utilizing majors available to Bloomfield College students, including education, nursing, sociology, psychology, business, computer information systems and creative arts and technology. Several organizations also offered paid freelance positions, as well as part-time and full-time opportunities for prospective employees.

“For us, it is extremely beneficial to be here and have the chance to get in contact with future leaders,” said Marcus Christmas, a recruiting manager at home health care company Bayada. “Bloomfield College students are well-prepared to enter the workforce, and we are happy to be here and show them the type of opportunities that are available to them.”

The Center for Career Development's next event, the Fall Graduate School Fair, will be held on Oct. 16, 2014 from 2-4 p.m.
