CSLE and CAT Team Up

CAT IT Director Devrim Ozgur has been working hard to support our faculty and offering them the resources they need to successfully teach fully online classes to our CAT students. At the same time, he is working hard at home to use the COVID-19 crisis as a teaching moment for his kindergarten son.

"My son and I are very creative at home. We work on projects together keeping others in mind. During these challenging times, I am able to teach our son how to be empathic and how to help those who are in need."

During the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, it was no surprise that Ozgur reached out to President Evans and inquired about getting resources so he could use the College's 3D printers to create plastic face shields for healthcare workers on the front lines. Joining together with members of the CSLE S.E.R.V.E. Program, supplies were ordered and Ozgur, his son and others began creating face shields to protect students and essential workers on campus.

"Initially, Devrim asked for materials to produce 100 masks. Through S.E.R.V.E. Program resources, CSLE was able to provide materials for over 200 masks. We are extremely grateful to Devrim and President Evans for sharing this initiative with us. We are proud to be able to protect our front line healthcare workers and staff and students who are currently on campus," shared Terrance Bankston '04, Interim Director of CSLE and Alumni Association Member.

Student representatives involved in the project include CSLE Student Ambassadors Marvin Delgado, Kiera Patterson, Kayla Fairclough, Tyra Brooks, Kyle Smith, Samantha Lacayo, Jacquaia Nettles and Jacob Enis. In addition to being CSLE Student Ambassadors, they represent the Bloomfield College Student Government, Greek Life, the EOF Program and other student groups such as Show Your Colors, Team Infinite and Psi Sigma Phi.

"This is the ultimate teaching moment and blends together my passion for the work I do within the CAT Division, the importance of giving back to others and collaborating with members of the college community, especially our students," shared Ozgur.

"As we are faced with difficult and trying times, it's heartwarming to see all members of the Bloomfield College community, even members of their families, coming together to help others," shared President Evans.
